This atmospheric composition features sweeping red and crimson brushstrokes, delicate pink accents, loose graphite-like lines, and spontaneous gestures against a pale, luminous background. The overlapping forms create a sense of movement and tension, while the intricate marks suggest the emotional intensity of an ancient epic reimagined through modern painting.

This artwork belongs to Twombly's celebrated Fifty Days at Iliam series, a ten-part painting cycle inspired by Alexander Pope's translation of Homer's Iliad. The series explores the final days of the Trojan War, bringing together classical mythology, literary references, and the artist's distinctive visual language. The title evokes the mythological figures Achilles, Patroclus, and Hector, whose intertwined destinies form a central tragedy within the epic. Rather than illustrating the narrative literally, Twombly uses color, gestural marks, and expressive lines to communicate emotion, memory, conflict, and loss.

This Cy Twombly poster offers a sophisticated way to bring modern abstract art into your interior.
