Created in 1978, this evocative composition features a cloud-like arrangement of soft gray and pale blue marks against a light, off-white background. The handwritten blue lettering beneath the central form adds a distinctive expressive element, while the generous open space creates a sense of calm, mystery, and contemplation.

The artwork forms part of Twombly's Fifty Days at Iliam, a ten-part painting cycle inspired by Alexander Pope's translation of Homer's Iliad. Completed in 1978, the series combines classical storytelling with Twombly's characteristic fusion of abstraction, gestural marks, color, and writing. Rather than illustrating the epic literally, he evokes its emotional and historical dimensions through atmospheric forms and expressive visual details. Shades of Eternal Night offers a particularly subtle interpretation of these themes.

This Cy Twombly canvas print offers a sophisticated way to display abstract art in contemporary interiors. The natural canvas texture enhances the image's visual character, adding depth and a tactile quality to the finished presentation. Its muted palette makes it an appealing choice for living rooms, bedrooms, home offices, creative studios, and reading spaces. Display it individually for a restrained artistic statement or combine it with other modern works to create a curated gallery wall.

Whether you are drawn to abstract expressionism, classical literature, or understated contemporary wall decor, this Shades of Eternal Night canvas wall art brings artistic depth to your space.
