This expressive composition features three large, rose-inspired forms rendered in vivid shades of red, orange, and golden yellow against a pale blue background. Sweeping brushstrokes, layered contours, and cascading paint drips give the blossoms a powerful sense of movement and energy. Delicate handwritten marks on the right side introduce an additional expressive element, creating a compelling contrast between the bold floral shapes and the quieter surrounding space.

Cy Twombly was an influential American artist celebrated for his distinctive approach to abstract expressionism, gestural painting, expressive drawing, and experimental mark-making. His work frequently explores the connections between nature, classical mythology, literature, poetry, and human emotion. Through spontaneous gestures, layered pigments, and expressive lines, Twombly developed a unique artistic language that combines physical energy with poetic associations. In The Rose (II), energetic brushwork and vibrant colors transform recognizable floral forms into a dynamic abstract composition.

Created in 2008, The Rose (II) belongs to Twombly's celebrated five-part The Rose series. Across these paintings, the artist explores the beauty and symbolism of roses through expansive gestures, expressive colors, and the flowing movement of paint. Rather than presenting a traditional botanical illustration, Twombly transforms the blossoms into large, expressive forms that balance recognition with abstraction. The vibrant reds and yellows contrast with the cool blue background, while the flowing paint emphasizes the movement and material qualities of the artwork. The series reflects Twombly's enduring interest in the relationship between painting, poetry, beauty, and the passage of time.

This The Rose (II) by Cy Twombly poster offers a vibrant way to introduce contemporary abstract floral art into your home.
