Coronation of Sesostris by Cy Twombly Poster

Coronation of Sesostris by Cy Twombly – Abstract Art Poster

Discover Coronation of Sesostris by Cy Twombly, a remarkable example of expressive abstract art that combines gestural brushstrokes, delicate pencil marks, and flowing paint drips against a luminous, off-white background. Subtle shades of yellow, charcoal, gray, and muted pink create an atmospheric composition in which color and movement become the primary means of artistic expression. The contrast between the energetic marks and the expansive negative space gives the artwork a distinctive sense of rhythm, depth, and visual poetry.

Created in 2000, Coronation of Sesostris is part of a ten-panel painting cycle inspired by the legendary Egyptian ruler Sesostris and ancient mythology. Cy Twombly brings together history, poetic imagination, and painterly experimentation in a series that explores the relationship between color, time, movement, and cultural memory. His spontaneous-looking gestures and cascading drips transform the canvas into a compelling visual landscape that invites viewers to interpret its details in their own way.
