Untitled (Bastian 38) by Cy Twombly – Framed Abstract Art Print

Discover Untitled (Bastian 38) by Cy Twombly, a compelling example of modern abstract art from 1973. Associated with the portfolio The New York Collection for Stockholm, the composition features powerful diagonal strokes, layered black and gray marks, and fine intersecting lines against a pale background. Textured areas and sweeping gestures create a dynamic sense of movement, while the open spaces between the marks preserve a thoughtful balance throughout the composition.

Cy Twombly was an influential modern artist known for his distinctive combination of gestural abstraction, expressive drawing, calligraphic marks, and spontaneous lines. His work often challenges the boundaries between drawing, writing, and painting. In Untitled (Bastian 38), the emphasis on texture, diagonal movement, and monochromatic contrast gives the artwork a distinctive visual identity without relying on recognizable imagery.

The original 1973 print was produced using lithography and screenprinting on paper. Its restrained black and gray palette highlights the relationship between mark-making and open space, making it an appealing example of Twombly's experimental approach to modern art. The textured lines and contrasting tonal areas invite close observation and bring a sense of movement to a minimalist composition.
